Learning about the Seven Habits of Highly Successful People

Last week, the entire teaching staff at my school attended a 2-1/2 day boot camp on Stephen Covey’s infamous habits.  I’d studied the 7 Habits while in undergrad and again while in library school, but never like this.  Last week’s session was a part of the Leader in Me program my school is in the process of implementing to help our students.  It was a fab team building opportunity for the small groups who worked together on the various habits.  I can say that I was able to put a couple of items into immediate effect that made a difference with a certain challenging co-worker.  I may not be able to do much about the situation, but I can choose my attitude and how I will react to the individual (and situation) from now on.

I took the time to be proactive and plan my upcoming week.  I have my library and personal to-do lists done, but need to map out my action plan for this week’s sewing activities.  Prep for the class I’m teaching on Friday and I need to fuse, cut and finalize the layout of the mosaic t-shirt quilt for a customer by this weekend.  I also have a couple of baby quilt tops in process that I’d like to get moved to the “to be quilted” pile and out of the chair.

Who’d have thought?

Offering to spend 1 hour a month with the dog at a local healthcare facility would require a thorough background check and medical screen.  That’s for ME – not the dog.  I had to have a background check in the summer when they renewed my teaching certificate.  Wonder if it works like your credit score where you get “dinged” from so many inquiries?  I sure hope not.
